Clinical Medical Assistant
Course

 

The program prepares students to work with clinical coordinators or practice administrators. As a Clinical Medical Assistant, you will be involved in the comprehensive medical billing and setup of patients for medical facilities.  You will also be involved in the practice and management of a medical office in areas such as receptionist duties, telephone techniques, appointment scheduling, verbal and written communications, medical and non-medical record management. You will learn basic patient setup for triage care and perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners run smoothly.

 

Clinical duties vary according to state law and include: taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination.

The course meets the requirements of the NHA (National Healthcare and Association) board where upon completion of the program, students can register for the national certification exams.

Prerequisites

  • 18 years of age

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Proficiency in vocabulary, comprehension, and math concepts

  • Basic computer skills

  • Pass a criminal and background check for externship placement
     

Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge in basic sciences -

  • Biology coursework

  • Chemistry coursework

  • Medical Terminology

Course Duration

The length of the course is approximately 6 months, excluding externship (optional) and is comprised of a full online class.

Externship Program​

 

The externship serves as a working experience, as well as a reference for future employment. For an additional fee of $650, students receive hands-on-training by completing a minimum of 160 clock-hour externships at a local medical site through MK Education.

​

MK Education has established relationships with sites (clinics and hospitals) nationwide to provide potential opportunities to complete this externship for all students.
