With the expansion of access to healthcare and a large number of patients requiring medical care:  Medical Coders will need to play an important role in the financial success of private medical practices and other health care facilities. The greater the expertise of the Medical Coder in identifying relevant diagnoses for patient encounters, the greater accuracy for the insurance reimbursement to medical providers.  This reimbursement demand generates a need for medical coders who specialize in coding after a thorough training program and a certification process.  The American Academy of Professional Coders (www.aapc.com) and American Health Information Management Association (www.ahima.org) offer certification.

 

Certified Medical Coders are in high demand throughout the healthcare industry. In fact, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Health care is the largest U.S. industry, and makes this career a sound choice.  Medical support professionals, including Medical Coders, are one of the 10 fastest-growing allied health occupations while studies show that Medical Coders are paid accordingly for their exceptional medical coding skills.
