MK Education would like to congratulate Lawrence Frey, a pharmacy technician teacher from St. Louis Community College in Bridgeton, who has been chosen as our "Instructor of the Month" for May 2014! Student's of Lawrence have stated that he is a great teacher whose exceptional teaching has helped them exceed during their exams and as pharmacy technicians. MK Education is thankful to have a teacher of Lawrence's caliber and looks forward to working with him for many years!

Please provide us with a brief biography of yourself and tell us why you chose to become a Pharmacy Technician.

I am a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. Upon graduation, I went to work for an independent pharmacy where I was recruited by Eli Lilly and Company into the sales force. They sent me to graduate business school at Xavier University where I graduated with a M.B.A. with dual concentration in marketing and finance. I spent almost 32 years Lilly with numerous different jobs, including medical information, sales training, marketing, professional relations, and sales management.

Upon retirement, I went to work for Walgreens as a part-time retail pharmacist. After 4 years, I retired again and began teaching for MK Education in their Pharmacy Technician program. My first assignment was with the Saint Louis Community College, and most recently, at Pattonville High School in St. Louis, where I have 18 Seniors in a class designed to create options for kids who may or may not go on to college.

What do you enjoy most about teaching for MK Education?

MK Education does this type of career training at a cost that is acceptable. I was frustrated to hear that some of the technicians I met at Walgreens had paid up to $22,000 for similar training. The support I get from Bree Abbas at MK is exceptional. I never have to ask twice for anything.

What do the students enjoy most about taking the class?

I think a lot of the students I have taught enjoy two aspects of their MK education. First of all, it gives them an opportunity to pursue a career that offers them opportunity. My wife, who is a paralegal, addressed my high school class and spoke to them about opportunities for a tech in the legal fields. This got a lot of attention from the class.

The other thing they get from this class is little more complicated. For many, it gives them confidence in their abilities. I have had several students that have decided to make Pharmacy a career and are pursuing it at this time. You can see their minds begin to see possibilities for themselves that they did not see before.

Interesting hobbies/fun facts?

In my spare time, I shoot Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays. I kayak on many of the lakes and rivers in Missouri, and I ride motorcycles cross country with a group of friends from all over the United States. We have been doing this for 20 years. I also fly fish on the beautiful, spring fed rivers that are abundant in Missouri

.

I have been married for 40 years. I have a son who is with Oppenheimer Securities in Denver and a daughter who lives in Quincy, Illinois who and is a registered nurse.
