Going back to school can be very scary, especially if you are going to study something unfamiliar. Most high school graduates have a very limited knowledge when it comes to pharmacology, radiology, or medical terminology; add math and it may seem like a recipe for disaster. But, with the right research, the proper preparation, and a positive attitude, your health care training program can be a success!

1) Ask the right questions: Before you start class, try to get an idea of what you are in for. Look through the books to get an idea of the type of questions you’ll be asked. Make sure to ask your instructor or the school administrator what the class will cover, what you are already expected to know, and how much homework to expect.

2) Prepare before class starts: There are tons of resources available to anyone looking to brush up on their math or English skills. My favorite website, Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org) offers videos and exercises in a number of subjects. Review the basics before class starts!

3) Stay Calm: Some days of class are going to be harder than others. Don’t understand a new concept? Don’t panic! Focus, take good notes, and speak with your instructor after class. You have so many resources at your finger tips. Sit down with the material, read slowly and carefully, and most importantly, stay positive.

There you have it, three steps to help you through your healthcare class sans the added stress. Which part of your class stresses you out the most? Any special tricks for coping with it?
