Lameka Borders, a pharmacy student at Chicago State College of Pharmacy, started off her pharmacy journey by attending MK Education’s pharmacy technician program. Borders, who comes from an IT background decided to take the low-commitment class to test the healthcare waters before she decided to make a career switch.
“I wasn’t sure if it was the route I wanted to go,” she stated, “But they were convenient evening classes and very inexpensive so I thought I would give it a shot.”
Borders was immediately impressed by the teaching style, the way the course was set up and the engaging content.
“I wasn’t just taught from the book. The instructor used real life examples and when I worked as a pharmacy technician, I saw that she taught me exactly what I needed for the job. The course helped me just blow away the certification exam and it’s still helping me on the job and in school today!”
After working as a Walgreen’s pharmacy technician for four years, Lameka finally took the step towards pharmacy school. She said it’s important to keep in mind this certification is for a growing, moving field.
“Even as a pharmacy technician there are so many opportunities out there. After Walgreen’s I got into hospital where I learned IV technician. I grew so much in the hospital where I learned new techniques and really built a solid foundation.”
She went on to say how important it is to take a professional reputable course such as this one. “My instructor wrote me a letter of recommendation for pharmacy school and even the CEO was very helpful. He is very knowledgable about the pharmacy field.”
And what advice does Lameka have for students interested in the course?
“If you’re not sure if pharmacy is the way to go and you just want to get an idea, I truly recommend this class. It opened my eyes to the pharmacy industry and it was a great place to start. Even if you already know you want to do pharmacy, it’s so important to take this class. If offers solid foundational skills, it will help you excel on the test and on the job, and it really helped me be quick and efficent at my job.”
MK Education would like to congratulate Lameka on all her success and wishes her continued success on her journey moving forward!
